Last week we were excited to welcome some of our regular families back after the half term as well as some new ones.
We introduced (and recapped) the rules of Forest School.
No pick, no lick
Be careful how you carry a stick
These skills were put to work straight away with the children making journey sticks. The children all went on a hunt for a stick that they thought was special and took it on an adventure through the tall ferns, through the swishy grass and under the trees. They gathered natural items and attached them onto their sticks. We hope to encourage the children to get a connection and understanding of the environment around them during the following weeks. The activities that we completed supported the children in identifying, describing and naming the different things around them. It gets them to take a closer look and make comparisons, developing language and vocabulary.
Walking over the uneven ground is also great for developing core strength and gross motor skills as we move carefully through the woods.
For the rest of the session, we got busy building tarp dens together, making leaf rubbings and mobiles and finished off with some popcorn on the fire.
