I've been a Primary School teacher since 2002, working predominantly with KS2 children in schools in North and West London. Throughout my years of teaching, I have been a Science Leader and year group leader. I have also supported others in their early teaching career as an NQT mentor.
In September 2016, whilst looking to foster my love of the outdoors and its benefits to education, I found Forest School. Having researched Forest Schools, I thought it could be the perfect match for my love of nature and working with children. I completed my Level 3 Forest School Practitioner course with FSLI and have set up and run Forest School at Deanesfield Primary School, witnessing first hand the positive impact, development of skills and noticeable increase in confidence and self esteem of the children. I was convinced that all children could reap the benefits of the Forest School experience and so decided to launch Forever Green Forest School.
I started my career in marketing but after years being tied to a desk the call of the outdoors was too great to resist. I trained in Horticulture at Capel Manor College in Enfield, achieving an Advanced Level 3 Diploma. My experience working with children began with my own when I became Chair of the Parent Led Committee of their pre-school, deepening my knowledge of early years education and child development. I continued to gain experience volunteering at schools, working with children in the classroom and outdoors.
My first encounter with Forest School came via my old and much loved friend Emma. I was keen to marry my passion for horticulture and the outdoors with my keen interest in education in order to develop a new career. Emma suggested working together and before long Forest School became a topic of conversation. After my first Forest School Session, my mind was convinced that becoming a Forest School Leader was for me and I completed my Level 3 Forest School Leader Training with FSE.
I am Caroline Nathanson. I am a qualified primary school teacher of many years experience. I have also trained as a Level 3 Forest School Leader with Archimedes. For most of my life I have worked in Early Years education, teaching in Nursery and Reception classes. I am passionate about nature and working towards improving the environment for both wildlife and people to enjoy. Ultimately I’m trying to do my bit to save the planet. I am engaged with several projects to achieve this including working with Forever Green Forest School and setting up Harrow Nature Heroes with the Harrow Nature Conservation Forum and Harrow Parks. I also run sessions and guided walks with Get Into Nature, which is my own company.
After many years working as a self employed photographer I was inspired go the Forest School way by watching my own children play in natural environments Noticing their engagement and absorption in every task I decided to change careers and start delivering Forest based learning sessions. Forest school was in its infancy in the UK, and I spent many years working in community groups and Home Education groups before training to Level 3 Forest School leader, with Archimedes here in the UK.
I have many skills to bring to Forever Green Forest School and am excited by their ethos. I'm enthusiastic and passionate about bringing Forest School to the widest possible audience through engagement with schools. I have spent many years working with children and young people in diverse environments – schools, community centres, play schemes, natural woodlands, home-education workshops, so feel I create engaging, supportive and challenging learning experiences.
